Rod Welford – Chairman

Rod Welford is the current Chief Executive of the Australia Council of Recyclers, the national peak industry body for the recycling industry. He retired in March 2009 from the Parliament of Queensland after nearly 20 years as a legislator and policy maker.

During his career as a Parliamentarian, he has held numerous positions both in the Parliament and in the Government, including Chair of the Queensland Government Sustainable Energy Advisory Group, Member of the Premier’s Smart State Council, Minister for Environment and Heritage and Minister for Natural Resources, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, and immediately prior to retirement, Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts.

Rod has many feats including the establishment of the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency, the first in the world with a division specifically focussed on sustainable industries and eco-efficiency as well as the initiation of Australia’s large scale rural water efficiency program.

Francis Barram

Francis is a leading Australian sustainability advisor. Francis is passionate about debunking the myth that sustainability costs. Through applying economic rigour and strategic, innovative and holistic solutions Francis has demonstrated that world best practice environmental outcomes can be achieved project after project. Francis is an economist with more than fifteen years experience in energy analysis and economic evaluation of sustainability related efficiency projects. Francis has undertaken complex evaluation of environmental issues, energy and greenhouse policies.

Malcolm Richards

Malcolm is the CEO of Master Electricians, a position he was appointed to after spending six years with the Electrical Safety Office which included developing new electrical safety legislation. Malcolm also has extensive experience in the electrical industry through 17 years working for Ergon Energy and previously NORQEB, is a qualified electrical fitter/mechanic/linesperson, and has completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Ron Della Pianna

With over 20 years experience as an electrical contractor, Ron offers a wealth of knowledge and experience to the institute. As a long standing industry contributor and promoter, Ron has grown his own successful contracting business - R Jay Electrical for 17 years to a staff of 30. As an active industry member, Ron was President of Club Clipsal Brisbane and continues to sit on the council for ECA – the peak industry association for the electrotechnology industry.

Owen Blamires

Owen is an experienced industry member having spent over 26 years as an electrical contractor specialising in the domestic, commercial and industrial areas. Owen has always promoted and upheld the high standards of the electrical industry to his staff and the public and will continue to support a strong commitment to the electrical industry, especially in the areas of training and safety.
